To be honest i cant see any other European nations challanging France or Wales during the Euro Cup. So does France still have to much class for Wales?? Would be great to see Wales win and make it through to the Four nations and play the Kiwis and Australia I would almost wish it was a Five nations tournment! |

Have to agree with you there Wales and France in the final for sure! I think France will win but would love Wales to make it through. I also which we had a 5 nations But it's all about baby steps. As soon as one of the competing nations (france, Wales PNG, etc) beat on of the big three in the Four Nations they should be included from then on and then the 5th team qualifies. The sooner we can get to a 5 or 6 nations the better but they have to make sure the nations that step up to the plate can compete. |

Welcome aboard kiwi, good to see another from the land of the long white cloud here. You're right, it'll more than likely be a wales-france final, no other country will be able to match them, france will probably be too strong for wales. A wee bit off topic, but do you support the new zealand warriors? Iv'e supported them ever since they became part of the NRL. |

I'm way down south. I live along state highway one between gore and invercargill. We went to queenstown yesterday, and i seen a warriors top in a shop there, but it was $180, a bit steep, i may have a look around for one next time i go to invercargill, might be a bit cheaper there. What did you think of the warriors last season? I was pretty disappointed considering how well they went in 2008. |

$180! f**k that! after xmas here all 2009 NRL jerseys were $50 at Rebel Sport. I went to Peter Wynn's Store aswell where they had "most 2009 NRL jerseys $50" but the warriors were the exception. i asked why and the guy said that its because their 2010 jersey is exactly the same as their 2009 one. Thus i bought a warriors snow jacket that was reduced from $130 to $50 haha. I have the white away jersey already though. back on topic; i really hope France and wales are the finalists. they deserve it more. theyre the two teams using actual french and welsh players. as people on this forum would probably know by now, i think there should be a high quota of domestic players in each team. i agree, these two teams are definitely the best outside of the 2010 four nations. they would clearly be the teams included in a 6 nations tournament. i also agree with nut that until someone starts beating aus, nz or england a 5 or 6 nations tournament cant come about. |

Hehehe, that's what i thought. Everything costs more in queenstown, they go after the tourist dollar there.
I'd be more than surprised to see any other team there, but in a way, it would be good if at least one of the finalists is different to what most of us seem to predict. Upsets are great for the game.
Same, it would be pointless having an expanded comp when it will be just the same 3 heavyweights winning it all the time. |

To expand before teams are ready will only damage the 4 Nations product and international rugby league. I think the powers that be realise that international rugby league is a fragile beast and needs time for nations to grow. |

Dead right there, it does need time to grow in other countries, hopefully within the next few years more countries become competitive. Having the same 3 nations at the top year after year can't be good for the sport. |

We nearly had our wish in the 2008 WC when PNG just about beat England. ![]() Much will happen in the next 4 years leading up to the World Cup. Wales and France will be much better and I think the Pacific Nations will be full of NRL/Super League players. So anything is possible come 2014

That was a goodun, the english came downunder more or less thinking that they already had the cup, but PNG soon put them straight and made them realise that things were going to be a wee bit tougher than what they thought.
Yeah, 4 years is a long time in sport, and i should know, every time the ABs lose at the union world cup, i have to wait another 4 years to see if we can finally win a 2nd one
If they can be more competitive than what they are now, then they will give the rest of us a bit of a hurry up, just so long as they don't beat new zealand, then it's all good

pffft first all blacks win doesn't count lol i still cant believe Wales didn't make the rlwc 08! an England loss to PNG in the 2010 4N will be worse for the game than a PNG loss i have to say. People will give up on the English side and just concentrate on the English union team. I would love nothing more than to see PNG defeat Australia though! wouldn't that be something. |

If Italia got a old of some of the pro ones than watch out. Would have a awesome forward pack. E.g. Marco Ferrazzano (Current Captain) + Michael Minichiello + Laffranchi + Rocky Trimarchi (now with Crusaders) + M. Sands (Italian bred - in LER 2) + Ciraldo (Newcastle Knights) Backs - A. Minichiello, Rovelli (NQ), Campese, Nero, Franze. They are the major ones. Although it depend on if they are proud of their heritage and will step up (or the NRL/ESL ones) Edited by Italia, Jan 20 2010, 12:46 PM.

france should win comfortably but as for the losing team i'd bet on scotland to be there. wales may have played good at this euro cup but only a year before that they got their arse handed to 'em buy lebanon to miss qualification for the world cup. i dont believe the other euro nations took wales as seriously as they should've. also with having france in this years comp it should force the other teams to step up, i think they will wanna see how they rate. so france and scotland |

The NRL/ESL players were approached. However some gave excuses or had Visa issues. E.g. Dalle Cort (previous Crusaders) - had that ban in UK? SO wouldn't of been able to travel there to play. Mini's - apparently were going to Rovelli's wedding - seriously a wedding doesn't go for 3 weeks! Nero - injury? Or possibly club not wanting him to play. Others: Not sure, except Laffranchi / Campese may choose to just play for Aus. |

Yet Wales beat Scotland that year!! So if Scotland had played Lebanon in 2007, they would have got thrashed too. Also Wales smashed PNG, and then PNG went on to just lose both matches against France. I really do think Wales under Harris will shock alot of people. The result against England proves the ground they are making with such an inexperienced squad. Last time they both played was in 2005 which France won 38-16.. |

Be interesting to see what Australian players would make themselves available for this tourny. I'll be seeing Michael Robertson in a couple weeks at a Manly function and I'll see if he'll be making himself available for it. |

its a long way to go for a tournament. i guess some players could use it as somewhat of an end of year trip. possibly even take their partners along. in saying this , they'll need to take the games seriously. ireland and scotland are the only two that can call on heritage players i think. wales and france dont seem to have very many at all. the welsh and french domestic comps are about 10 leagues above the Scottish and Irish comps. welcome to the forum anthony |

I think it's 50/50 as Catalans are performing poorly. But than again are using a lot of French talent still and have that added benefit of playing Aus + Eng + NZ. |

I still think England should be included in the Cup, France and Wales are not too far off with Scotland putting in a good effort in last years final, anyway, for this years final I think France will have them in the forwards. I hope its televised in Aus. |

Funnily enough that had already happened back in the 85-88 WC series, PNG beat NZ 24-22 in front of 15000 in Port Moresby (don’t get me started on why they aren’t allowing PNG to host games this year when they were hosting them years ago), then backed it up in the 89-92 WC series with good results against Australia, comparable or better than either NZ or France could achieve. Aus 36 def PNG 14 in Townsville. These WC series were good for PNG/France as it gave them big nations to test themselves against every year, when it went back to a tournament, bang, nothing for the years in between. It is also amazing how much damage the 2000 WC seems to have done, scaring organizers to aim for small crowds e.g. shutting a whole stand for the 4N Final at Elland road. Compare that crowd with the 89-92 Final of 73,630 and the '95 final of 66,500 both held at Wembley, hell, the '95 semi final Eng v Wales got 30,000 at Manchester! I would love to see a 6 Nations, England, France from the north and Australia and NZ from the south plus a qualifier from each Hemisphere from the respective cups. After this years 6 Nation Union tourney, we should show everyone how good rugby can be. |

You make a pretty good point that I can't argue against. All I will say is the wins PNG have racked up over the years against the big three are far and few between. Still no excuse for not giving them more international games throughout the years. This years 4 Nations will be a good indicator of how well they have progressed since the 2008 WC. Winning the Pacific Cup shows that they are really ranked 4th or 5th in the World at the moment in my book. If they get better results then France did then you would have to say after the Four Nations they will be ranked 4th.
I think the 2008 WC wiped away the memories of the 2000 version. The last Rugby League World Cup was very succesful and hopefully we will see a better one in the UK in 2013. The main reason why the crowds have dropped for international in the UK is simply because England's international team has dropped in standard since 89 - 92 & 95 WC's. At that time they where ranked 2nd in the World and really gave Australia a run for their money. That's why it's so important that England lift there game between now and the World Cup. They really only have 2010 and 2011 Four Nations to really test themselves against NZ and AUS. If Wales and France improve over the next few years then maybe they could get more practice playing them in 2012.
To be honest I don't think we are that far off (within 10 years) having something along those lines. You could even have a 6 nations with 3 from the north and 3 from the south battling it out in their hemisphere with the winner of each hemisphere playing each other in the "6 Nations" final. If cost is a hinderance to having all 6 Nations playing in the UK. The reason rugby's version is so succesful is because the home nations and France are pretty close to each other so it's easy for fans to travel and to get massive media attention. In 10 years Wales and France would have improved out of site and hopefully one of the Pacific Nations and or PNG would have made their mark on the international scene. |

its not that england have gone down hill. its just the nrl has gone to a phenominal qaulity. id still go with the soutehrn hemisphere tri nations (png , aus, nz) to run alongside the northern hemisphere tri nations (eng, wal, fra), then then play off according to rankings... |

Maybe once it becomes more popular (Rugby League) there and Italy make the RLWC - but its definitely long term with growth! With a new competition as well. Need some of the NRL / SL Italians to help - as Lebanon will be strong for qualifiers -you would have to think |

I've said it before but i think the European Cup should be open to anyone not on tiers. There should be qualifiers in the first year (with England and France participating in) and followed by the main tournament in a host nation (most likely England, Wales or France).
