Great News!

I have never seen this much investment in organising previous World Cups in the past.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) will open a base at MediaCityUK in February when the governing body moves into offices at The Greenhouse.

The Greenhouse will be the base for the dedicated team that will administer the Rugby League World Cup 2013 with the RFL taking 2,100 sq ft. of space accommodating around 20 employees.

Nigel Wood, the RFL’s chief executive and Rugby League World Cup 2013 tournament director, said he was delighted to have agreed the move to the £650million Peel Group development at Salford Quays.

“We are committed to making the 2013 Rugby League World Cup the best tournament in the sport’s history and I am confident that our move to MediaCityUK will help us achieve that objective,” said Wood.

“MediaCityUK will provide the perfect environment for our staff to deliver a Rugby League World Cup that will be one of the jewels of the UK’s Golden Decade of Sport.”

Stephen Wild, managing director, MediaCityUK, said: “It is an exciting time for the RFL and we are thrilled they’ve chosen to open an office here at MediaCityUK. They bring a new and different offer to the wide variety of businesses making their home in The Greenhouse. We believe it’s an ideal location for the RFL to market the World Cup to a wide audience.”

The difference between the most recent RLWC and this WC is that the British (as you said) have done everything humanely possible to make it a success!

With the WC in Australia major announcements did not occur until about 3 or 4 months out from the tournament. I never saw major ads or campaigns promoting the world cup until about after the NRL grand final!

The RFL blows us out of the water when it comes to organizing an international event!

It's a move that shows their is a real group of people organising the World Cup.

Previously it always seems so much less transparent, never has there been so much information handed onto the public, it makes me more confident.

It also generates more interest in the general public.

We will soon see whether this tournament is going to make a profit in 18 months time and we all know what happened in 2000!This time the Poms must deliver and if not the RLIF will be held accountable, otherwise heads will roll!
As sure as eggs!

That's really good news. I think the 2013 RLWC is going to be bigger than anything we've ever seen in Rugby League and set off a great chain of events leading to the game having a much bigger presence.

Sadly true and yet so counter-productive for Australia. So also very dumb.
